Ideas for Jasło – from the young for the young

We present the expectations and needs of the young residents of Jaslo, which emerged during the “Going in Jasło” workshop.

According to young people, the most significant barrier to living in the city turned out to be the lack of a meeting place, accessible to all. An important need was pointed out for a covered, cozy “warm” meeting place in the center of the city, where they could spend time all year round (with the possibility of charging phones, accompanying infrastructure such as a cafe). The problem of commuting to school from different parts of the city and Jasło district was also raised (too low frequency of buses, lack of weekend and evening connections).

In addition, young people from various neighboring municipalities who commute to school need after-school, weekend integration, and limited mobility unfortunately makes it difficult for them. Young people also complain about infrastructure related to travel to and from school – they dream of a renovated bus station, updated boards and timetables – comfortable stops with more seats, a transportation app.

In addition, the young think there are not enough events in Jaslo to integrate groups of peers – concerts, thematic rallies, interest circles developing passions. They were critical of the city’s aesthetics – the need for more murals, greenery, renovation of buildings, adaptation of vacant buildings and trash garbage cans was pointed out. They also lacked an open-air meeting place, bicycle paths (here they most often pointed to the flood embankment) taking traffic out of the city center.

The currently operating cinema is not attractive to them due to its outdated repertoire and lack of food facilities (popcorn, cola). They think that an outdoor cinema would be interesting as a form of leisure activity.

A surprising topic was the availability of basic hygiene supplies at school. They pointed out the need to locate a so-called “pink box” in each school, which they can use in unexpected situations. They believe that there is a lack of hot meals in schools, and that the time spent at school is long (they would like to eat traditionally, healthily without using neighborhood fast food bars).

They indicated with great enthusiasm the need to create a so-called “relaxation zone” at school – modern and comfortable spaces set aside from areas such as corridors, which in addition to their function would improve the aesthetics of the school.

We are pleased to inform you that the concept of the “Going in Jasło” project, whose authors were employees of our office, has been appreciated by the Civis Polonus Foundation. The Jasło idea for this workshop with the participation of a cartoonist and the involvement of young people is promoted on the foundation’s website https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=653071863527051&set=a.456676883166551 , and in the near future a campaign will be launched to promote this type of meeting in other local governments as a good practice from Jasło.

We would like to remind you that the workshop was conducted within the framework of the “Going in Jasło” project, which is implemented within the framework of the project: “Jasło – my city, my home” funded by the EEA Financial Mechanism 2014-2021 and the state budget.
