Official language is often incomprehensible, and documents are too convoluted and ambiguous for the customer. Activities within the framework of the city’s “Who, what, where, when, why – in other words, we focus on understandable communication” project are intended to change this.

Ongoing research confirms that one-fifth of adult Poles have problems understanding texts and statements addressed to them by public institutions. The City of Jasło wants to implement standards of simple Polish so that customers can more easily communicate with the office, and consequently be served more efficiently.

Simple language allows for faster communication, because you have to write simply and briefly. In the same way, you can communicate both with the average citizen who is less competent, but also with those who have little time to process the information that floods them every day. – Our activities in this endeavor are intended to make communication – both on the office-to-office line, as well as on the office-to-unit line – run as smoothly as possible. We rely on simple and understandable language,” noted Ryszard Pabian, mayor of Jasło.

Hence, the “Simple Language” training courses prepared as part of the project were attended by employees of the City Hall in Jasło and employees of all its organizational units, companies and educational institutions. The training is one of the tasks of the project, another is the preparation of an effective communication program, or instructional videos on how to communicate quickly and effectively with the local government.

The undertaking “Who, what, where, when, why – in other words, we focus on understandable communication” is being implemented as part of the project “Jasło – my city, my home”, financed by the EEA Financial Mechanism 2014-2021 and the Norwegian Financial Mechanism 2014-2021 and the state budget.
