Simple and understandable language in public institutions

How to write simpler official letters and thus communicate better and more effectively with customers? Answers to these questions were sought during the training course “Simple and understandable language in public institutions,” which was organized by the City Hall in Jasło for more than 100 officials from all its municipal institutions.

Workshop participants learned how to prepare simpler official letters or how to apply the principles of simple and understandable language in their daily work with clients. – Official language is not easy, and documents are too intricate and ambiguous for the client, so we would like to make some changes here. Of course, we need to maintain the legal requirements that the content of decisions and resolutions impose on us, but beyond that, official language can be much more communicative,” says Ryszard Pabian, mayor of Jasło.

As part of the city’s ongoing efforts, an effective communication program is being established, a systematic action plan for all city institutions that will organize communication, among other things. The institutions will more efficiently exchange information about their activities and create messages tailored to the needs of their customers.
In addition, the content of websites and official letters will be improved and standardized, and the principles of simple language will become a permanent feature of city institutions.

I hope that these changes will be visible soon, and you will notice it not only in your direct contacts with us, or through the letters we will send to you, but it will also be visible through the electronic communication system that has been introduced in the city hall,” stressed Agata Koba, city hall spokesperson.

All these activities are carried out as part of the “Who, what, where, when, why? – i.e. we focus on understandable communication!”, which is part of the project “Jasło – my city, my home”.
The task is financed by funds from the EEA Financial Mechanism 2014-2021 and the Norwegian Financial Mechanism 2014-2021 and the state budget.
