A bench with the figure, born in Jasło, of Jerzy “Dudus” Matuszkiewicz, has been created next to the Jasło House of Culture. He was an outstanding composer of music for many popular TV series and films, including Forty Years Old, Janosik and Civil War. The idea of setting up a playing bench with the figure of the musician was realized as part of the project “Jasło – my city, my home!”.

The city has long wanted to commemorate this outstanding musician, who did not forget his hometown of Jasło and supported it with donations (purchase of a new piano for the Jasło Cultural Center, support of the Social Committee for the Protection and Renovation of Monuments of the Cemetery on Zielona Street in Jasło, founding a scholarship for young, musically talented Jaslo residents). Hence, in the surroundings of JDK (at the intersection of Kościuszki and Rejtana streets), a square was arranged and a musical bench (stylized symbol of a piano) was installed, along with a bronze sculpture depicting the figure of Jerzy “Dudus” Matuszkiewicz. – I am convinced that commemorating in this way an outstanding artist, an excellent jazz musician, and for us, above all, a native of Jasło, will contribute to an even wider popularization of both his work and his character,” noted Ryszard Pabian, mayor of Jasło.

Jerzy “Duduś” Matuszkiewicz was born on April 10, 1928 in Jasło, his family home is located in a tenement standing in the market square in the western frontage. He was a well-known jazz musician, co-founder of the band “Melomani”, saxophonist, composer of music for many TV series and films. In 2013 he was awarded the title of Honorary Citizen of the City of Jasło. He passed away on July 31, 2021 in Warsaw.

The making of the “Dudus bench” is part of the “Urban design” project, part of the “Jasło – my city, my home” project, and implemented with funds from the EEA Financial Mechanism 2014-2021 and the Norwegian Financial Mechanism 2014-2021 and the state budget.
