More than 100 students from elementary, secondary and special schools, forming 21 teams, have begun work on their research projects. The projects are to deal with issues related to the city, and are being carried out as part of the Genius Ideas Exchange competition for Jasło.

This is the second edition of the contest, organized by the City of Jasło as part of the project “Jasło, my city, my home.”-I am very pleased that in this edition we have even more eager young people to develop their scientific passions. This is a sign that you have new ideas that you want to put into practice,” said Ryszard Pabian, mayor of Jasło, during the opening.

The young researchers are supervised by 16 teachers who work with children and young people in schools, educational, sports, educational and welfare institutions and associations. – Their role is to inspire action, using the individual predispositions and abilities of the students. It is important that the tutor is an advisor, not a lecturer,” stressed Aleksandra Dacyl, an external expert in the competition.

The inauguration of the GGP was also attended by Dr. Krzysztof Głuc, who has been working with the city on the Jasło City of Knowledge program for more than a dozen years. The expert in a mini lecture entitled “Why is it worth learning? Innovation is the key to success” brought the participants closer to the facts about the market of the future. – According to a report by the World Economic Forum, 65 percent of children just starting school will work in professions that do not yet exist. For this reason, we need to prepare ourselves to continuously learn and acquire competencies to keep up with changes in the labor market. Technological skills will become among the most in-demand in the future,” K. Gluc noted.

In this edition, the project teams will, among other things: popularize the idea of volunteering among young people, create an interactive city game, study the management of drinking water in Jasło, explore the bonds between Jasło residents and their four-legged friends, popularize alternative methods of communicating with people with disabilities, unleash the literary and reading passions of young Jaslo residents, or take care of the mental health of the younger generation.

The GGP’s task is implemented within the framework of the project: “Jasło – City of Knowledge” carried out within the framework of the project financed by the EEA Financial Mechanism 2014-2021 and the Norwegian Financial Mechanism 2014-2021 and the state budget, and is part of the project “Jasło – my city, my home”.
