For more than a decade, Jasielski Children’s University has been providing the youngest residents of Jasielski with a solid dose of scientific knowledge, served, of course, in an accessible form. On Saturday (September 30), another 75 young science enthusiasts joined the ranks of the students. During the inauguration ceremony of the 14th edition of the Junior University, the freshly minted little students received indices and scientific layettes. The culmination of an exciting morning was a fascinating scientific show.

Jasielski Children’s University is a project that with each passing year brings together around the idea of popularizing science an increasing number of young residents of the city. Suffice it to mention that 143 application forms were submitted in this year’s recruitment for the Junior University. On September 30 this year, the little students met at the GEN Science Generator in Jaslo to inaugurate the 2023/24 academic year.

The ceremony took place in the auditorium of the Jasielski GEN. The children, who sat in the first rows, were proudly watched by their parents and guardians. After taking the oath and listening to the “Gaudeamus igitur” song, the little students were officially included in the ranks of the Jasielski Children’s University students, which Paweł Rzońca, secretary of the City of Jasło, did not fail to congratulate them on.

Jasielski Children’s University has a rich history. It was established in 2011. It has therefore been going on for more than a dozen years. Its first graduates are today university students. It’s a venture that from the very beginning aimed to ignite curiosity, passion and readiness to search for their talents in the youngest residents of our city. I think that these first graduates of Juni University, who consciously chose their field of study, did so thanks to the fact that they participated in our project. I wish our little students that they have the opportunity to participate in interesting classes, and I wish their parents that attendance at classes is always one hundred percent,” said Paweł Rzońca.

Another highlight of Saturday’s ceremony was the handing out of indexes to the young students and scientific layettes in the form of microscopes and popular science books by Tomasz Rozek. The inaugural lecture was given by Prof. Katarzyna Mazurek, a researcher at the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Cracow, the Juni University’s scientific partner. Using fruit, she tried to explain to the children what particles are.

The proverbial icing on the cake was a scientific demonstration. Tomasz Madej introduced the children to the fascinating world of electric current, electrostatic interactions and magnetic phenomena. Together with the young Juni University students, he conducted physical experiments that literally made hair stand on end.

The first classes of the 14th edition of the Jasielski Children’s University will be held as early as October 7 this year. At that time 6-year-olds will begin their adventure with learning.
Jasielski Children’s University is an educational project implemented by the City of Jasło as part of the project: “Jasło – City of Knowledge” implemented within the framework of the project, financed from the funds of the EEA Financial Mechanism 2014-2021 and the state budget titled “Jasło – my city, my home”.
