A place like this. Where to go for a walk in Jasło?

Do you remember the time of the pandemic and the moment when the ban on leaving the house appeared? Does it happen that Sunday afternoon blows with boredom? Do you have ideas on how to pleasantly and usefully spend time with a group of friends? These were the questions that guided us when we chose the project topic.

We are students of the Maria Sklodowska-Curie High School in Kolaczce, and at the same time residents of Jaslo. The topic of our project is: “A place like this. Where to go for a walk in Jaslo?”, its aim is to encourage Jaslo residents to go outdoors more often and learn about interesting corners, intriguing objects, fascinating monuments, monuments of the past and nature in our city.

Meetings of our group are held on the premises of the Science Generator in Jaslo and at the Kołaczyce High School. At our first meeting we discussed the goals of the project, divided the tasks and established the rules of cooperation. We wondered how to make an ordinary walk around Jaslo more attractive. To this end, we met with geocaching enthusiasts Paulina Wilk and Bartłomiej Wilk and Robert Polak.

What is geocaching?

Geocaching is a field game using apps and GPS receivers, which allows its participants to search for previously hidden caches with surprises. Through this game, players can learn about interesting places in the city, as the app provides descriptions and interesting facts about the object or area.
Our experts explained to us how the app works, the types of caches and taught us the language of geocachers. They showed us souvenirs from various caches and events. After the theoretical classes, it was time for practice. On a frosty December Saturday, we took a long walk around Jaslo in search of “treasures.” We managed to find several caches both physical and virtual. Unfortunately, some caches were damaged, but our experts replaced them with new ones. Finding some caches precedes the need to solve fractious puzzles. Searching for “kesas” is not always easy and requires patience and perceptiveness.
Our application showed smiling faces, which means success and found “treasure”.
